Doing kitchen sink plumbing may seem like a daunting task but it’s not as complicated as it looks.
Replacing the worn or broken curved pipes underneath the sink, which are called P-traps, can solve plumbing issues and save money.

HOW TO REPAIR A KITCHEN SINK
- Make sure that the faucet and the water supply valve under the sink are both off. Place a bowl or bucket right beneath the P-traps to catch any residual water left inside the pipes.
- Unscrew the P-traps. This process is usually done manually. However, if they are already tightly attached or stuck, use dependable pliers to loosen them.
- Release the P-traps from the pipes and drain them of water.
- If the pipes coming down from the sink are corroded, remove them. Unscrew the pipes from the drain by turning them clockwise. Replacement pipes should be cut to the appropriate length using a hacksaw.
- Install new P-traps that are identical to the ones that you just removed. Again, use a functional hacksaw to cut them to the right length. Take note that it is advisable to use PVC pipes rather than those made from metal. The latter have corrosive properties which may once again cause plumbing problems in the future.
- Turn the water supply on and check for leaks before using the sink again.
